During the early years of historic racing three-wheeler Morgan and other similar vehicles were allowed to compete alongside traditional motor bike sidecar race outfits.

Our featured vehicle appeared at the very first Historic Winton way back in 1977. With Don Horsey driving and Terry Wright in the passenger seat it ran against the sidecar outfit manned by the Large family, father and son combination. Because of only two competitors it was deemed to be an exhibition event and apparently not recorded.

With his daughter Su as a willing passenger Don attended every historic meeting that was available to them at the time, including Winton, Phillip Island, Amaroo, Calder, Lakeside and Geelong Sprints, usually with great success and proving most popular with the numerous spectators.

They last raced at Oran Park in 1988 and Don Horsey attributes a lot of the racing success to Su’s uncanny ability to switch sides quickly in the corners, thus redistributing the weight load, plus not panicking when things often became a bit awry.

Historic Racing gave the Horsey family a lot of pleasure and the opportunity to meet like-minded enthusiasts. They hope to renew some their old friendships at 2019 Historic Winton.
